CDPHE couldn't reach younger audiences with sexual health info. So I made it funny

On average, meme style content EARNED 5x more users and earned 10x more shares than traditional posts.

I interned with the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) for eight months as a Marketing and Communications Intern. Their social account was under a year old and struggled to connect with a younger audience , sexual health content is inherently dry, and Gen Z wasn't engaging with it.

I proposed a shift to meme-style content, translating public health data into something genuinely relatable and funny. I also directed the paid media budget toward boosted Instagram reels, expanding reach to 20,000+ new accounts, and tracked performance through Meta Business Suite, presenting results to 200+ employees at monthly meetings.

The shift worked, engagement rose 40%, and meme-style content is still the foundation of the account today, continuing to grow year over year.
